I can't view files on a My book essential hard drive that was loaded on a MAC from my PC?

QT files were loaded onto an external hard drive from a MAC and I'm trying to view them on a PC. The computer detects the hardware and when first detected the drivers were installed, but the hard drive does not show up in the "Computer" folder. The files are inaccessible. Why is that and can I fix it?
