Does 4x4 disengage its self after a programed speed 2000 Silverado 5.3?

I have a 1997 Z71 that reads about 2000 rpms on the interstate at that speed. Now as for as the 4wd part. I do believe if it is a push on 4wd it is designed to kick out on its own. This is so you can not hurt it.
